The Scent of Oil and the Lessons from My First Job....
Life is a collection of different chapters. One of the most decisive periods is that gap after finishing school, having qualified for university, and waiting for the final results to be released. While many choose to spend that time relaxing at home, I felt a strong urge to earn something through my own hard work. Driven by that goal, I took up my very first job as a billing clerk at a vehicle service station🚙🚙.
Finding out that I had been selected for university brought me immense joy. However, before starting that journey, I wanted to build some savings of my own, so I wouldn't have to depend on my parents for my small expenses. That humble ambition was what eventually led me to the billing machine at a vehicle service station. Sitting there at the counter, the soundtrack of my day was the splashing of water and the hum of machinery, all wrapped in the sharp aroma of engine oil. It was a classroom unlike any other. Before I ever attended a formal lecture, this job taught me the weight of accountability, I knew that one wrong entry on a bill could disrupt the balance of the whole day💫💥💥.
It was also a masterclass in human nature. I encountered everyone from meticulous car lovers to stressed out drivers in a rush. Looking back, it was that service station not a textbook that taught me the patience and people skills I needed to navigate the diverse world of university life.
Even though it was a modest amount, the value of that hard-earned money at the end of a long day was unlike anything else. That sense of self-confidence the realization that I can stand on my own feet was the greatest victory I achieved before heading to university.
Today, even as a university student, the resilience and character I built while working at that vehicle service station remain invaluable. The biggest lesson I learned is that no matter what the job is, it can be a stepping stone toward your personal growth.
